Enslaved artists in residence Roadburn 2010
Naast curator Tom Gabriel Warrior, kent Roadburn 2010 ook een artist in residence, te weten: Enslaved.
Deze veelgeroemde Noorse metal-band is de belichaming van het duistere, meer experimentele gezicht van Roadburn, en we kunnen ons geluk niet op dat Enslaved in 4 verschillende gedaantes zal optreden.
Ten eerste spelen ze een speciale Enslaved-set (met de nadruk op het psychedeliche karakter van de band) op donderdag 15 april, daarnaast zullen ze samen met Shining (NO) hun gezamenlijke The Armageddon Concerto uitvoeren op zaterdag 17 april.
Verder is Enslaved's noise-avant-garde-spin-off project Trinacria uitgenodigd door Tom Gabriel Warrior voor Only Death Is Real (vrijdag 16 april), en speelt Dream of an Opium Eater (Een betoverend soundtrack project met Enslaved's Ivar Bjornson in de gelederen) 's nachts als afsluiter op Roadburn's main stage.

Enslaved announced as artists in residence for Roadburn Festival 2010; performances by Enslaved, Trinacria, Dream of An Opium Eater and Enslaved/Shining (NO) Big Band, playing their Armageddon concerto.
We are thrilled to announce that Norway’s Enslaved will be our artists in residence for next years Roadburn Festival, set to be held from April 15 – 18, 2010 at both the 013 venue and Midi Theatre in Tilburg – Holland.
Enslaved have been groundbreaking metal pioneers for almost 20 years. Since their Viking-metal inception, the band has been forging a connection between black metal and prog, arriving at an incredible melange of heavy psych and modern metal. Enslaved embodies the experimental, dark and psychedelic aspect of Roadburn, and we have invited them as our artists in residence – a premiere for Roadburn - for our 2010 festival.
Enslaved, and various band members, will be doing several special shows during the festival. First off, Enslaved will be playing the Thursday Roadburn date, April 15th.
Ivar Bjørnson comments: “This show will pan towards the latter day Enslaved and will consist of a set list especially put together for Roadburn; emphasizing the heavy, the psychedelic and not but least – the visual aspect of what Enslaved is today. Be prepared for a surprise or two!”
Trinacria has been invited personally by Tom Gabriel Warrior to play his Roadburn curated event, Only Death Is Real, on Friday, April 16th.
Originally a composition by Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved), Maja S. K. Ratkje and Hild Sofie Tafjord (both from Fe-mail), Trinacria combines the hard hitting sounds of cutting edge, Norwegian extreme metal with contemporary Norwegian noise, originally commissioned by Rikskonsertene for a concert series. This composition turned into a vital and creative project, completed by Grutle Kjellson, Ice Dale (both from Enslaved), Iver Sandøy (Emmerhoff & T.M.B.) and Espen Lien (Slut Machine).
Dream of An Opium Eater is a special collaboration between ace-metal musicians like Enslaved’s Ivar Bjørnson, Reuben Gotto (Johnny Truant), Ben Calvert (ex-Killing Joke) and Julia Ruzicka from Million Dead.
Like in the old days, when a pianist would accompany silent movies, Dream of An Opium Eater create an epic and unsettling soundtrack - composed by Reuben Gotto & Ivar Bjørnson - to a collection of mind-bending horror short-films, projected on a huge screen behind them. Expect some dark, intense, but also swirling takes on psychedelic metal reminiscent of Tool, VoiVod and even Joy Division, as icy horror and fright oozes from both the screen and the speakers.
"Dream of an Opium Eater is a powerful outlet for my doom sides", says Ivar Bjørnson. "I was stunned when we got together to do our first show at the Roskilde Festival in 2007; we sounded heavier together than I had dared hope for. For me music is energy, and getting to express the lower, heavier energies through Dream of An Opium Eater is amazing – every single time we perform. Playing to these very unique Norwegian short horror movies adds an extra dimension that creates a bubble of weirdness at our show. Not having a vocalist also makes life easy when we get together, hehe!"
After playing Roskilde Festival (2007), Carling Leeds Festival (2007) and Wacken Open Air (2008), this will be the 4th ever performance from Dream of An Opium Eater, set for April 16th, as part of the Roadburn Festival.
Enslaved / Shining (NO) will be the main headliner of Roadburn Festival 2010, playing their 90 minute Armageddon Concerto on Saturday, April 17th.
Both Enslaved and Shining (NO) are indisputably two of Norway’s most hard-hitting and progressive bands, constantly pushing musical boundaries on their own. Now both bands will be joining forces again, and impress and shock Roadburn Festival 2010 with a rare performance of the Armageddon Concerto –for the first time ever outside of Scandinavia.
The Armageddon Concerto will lead Roadburn Festival 2010 on a journey from our present state to the inevitable downfall of this world - through Ragnarok and a following period of vacuum and nothingness, a brief and painful post-apocalyptic era; and finally through the rise from the ashes to a new beginning in a distant time and space.
Composed by Enslaved’s Ivar Bjørnson and Shining’s Jørgen Munkeby and arranged together with the band members, Bjørnson describes the Armageddon Concerto as “an experience of a life time. Prog, doom, jazz, extreme metal, northern mythology, science fiction –this is going to be massive.”

Programma Popronde Tilburg bekend!
Het volledige programma van de Popronde in Tilburg is bekend! 013 zal daarbij het toneel zijn van de hardere stonerpop met Barbarella en The Mad Trist.
THE MAD TRIST
The Mad Trist stoomt op naar een bulderend debuutalbum. De robuust, catchy rock van dit viertal wordt momenteel door producer Torre Florim (De Staat) gevangen voor de begin 2010 te verschijnen plaat. Grijp nu alvast je kans en laat je deze Popronde grondig zandstralen. De band gaat ook mee op tour met De Staat!
BARBARELLA
Modern Times Rock ‘n’Roll! ‘Hoe heb ik dit kunnen missen’ riep Eric Corton op 3FM toen hij Barbarella de eerste keer hoorde. En niet alleen hij is enthousiast: ‘Lineaalstrak en moddervet’ (3VOOR12), ‘Verdomde lekker’ (Music Maker), ‘Werkt verfrissend en verslavend’ (Fret). Barbarella maakt harde rock en verpakt het als liedjes. Vier man met een voorliefde voor jaren ’60 en ’70 hardrock, punk, grunge en stonerrock.

Wolfmother in januari exclusief naar 013 Tilburg
De Australische rocksensatie Wolfmother komt naar Nederland voor een éénmalige show. Op dinsdag 26 januari staat het herboren viertal op de planken van 013 Tilburg om er de vernieuwde line-up te presenteren en het nieuwe album ‘Cosmic Egg’ te ondersteunen middels een ongetwijfeld stevige rockshow.
Wolfmother breekt in 2006 wereldwijd door met haar bejubelde debuut. De titelloze plaat blinkt uit in stevige, enorm catchy rocktunes waarvan singles als ‘Woman’ en ‘Joker &The Thief’ het uitermate goed doen. Het maakt Wolfmother tot een graag geziene gast op podia en festivals in binnen- en buitenland. Vergelijkingen met Grote Namen als Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer en Deep Purple zijn niet van de lucht en de groep rond zanger/gitarist Andrew Stockdale lijkt pijlsnel op weg om de grootste rocksensatie van de afgelopen jaren te worden.
De nummers van de band verschijnen in een stortvloed aan games, series en films (o.a. Jackass 2 en Shrek The Third) en ook op de schoorsteenmantel down under wordt het steeds voller wat betreft gewonnen awards. Helaas zorgen meningsverschillen binnen de groep voor de nodige problemen. De ritmesectie stapt in 2008 op waarna Stockdale alleen overblijft. Een vroegtijdig einde lijkt onafwendbaar, maar de zanger blijkt enorm gedreven en formeert al snel een nieuwe line-up. In die bezetting wordt het tweede album ‘Cosmic Egg’ opgenomen dat in oktober 2009 verschijnt.
Wolfmother laat op haar nieuwe plaat horen dat er aan creativiteit alleen maar gewonnen is. Eerste single ‘New Moon Rising’ is een wederom ultracatchy en retestrak staaltje rockwerk waar de vonken vanaf vliegen. Dat het ook live nog steeds lukt, bewees de groep eerder dit jaar in een uitverkochte Melkweg. Wie toen naast een kaartje greep, krijgt begin 2010 een nieuwe kans als het vernieuwde Wolfmother voor een exclusieve show naar 013 Tilburg komt.

Nieuwe namen Neurotic Deathfest
De line-up van Neurotic Deathfest 2010, wat op 30 April en 1 Mei 2010 zal plaatsvinden in 013 breidt zich wekelijks verder uit. In totaal zullen er zo'n 40 overwegend internationale acts optreden.

De voorverkoop voor het -inmiddels veelbesproken- Roadburn Festival begint op zaterdag 28 november om 10:00. Tickets (alleen 3 dagen passepartouts en max. 2 tickets per persoon) zijn bij alle bekende VVK-adressen te verkrijgen, alsmede on line.

Roadburn Festival 2010 zal plaats vinden van donderdag 15 t/m zaterdag 17 april 2010. Op zondag 18 april vindt de traditionele Roadburn Afterburner plaats voor degene die in de Roadburn-sfeer wil blijven, alvorens naar huis terug te keren.
